I HAVE ANSWERS
I’ve tried to list off all of the common questions that I have been asked over the years of shooting professional headshots and portraits. But of course, if there is something not in my FAQ that you want to know please contact me. I’d be happy to answer your questions.
Will you direct me?
Yes. You are in very good hands. I have excellent tips and tricks to make you look and feel your utmost best. My direction is very precise and before we even take the first picture we’ll be working some key tips. I also shoot every session into my laptop, so we can review the images together to ensure the direction I’m providing is indeed helping.
What should I wear?
- Bring a few choice of clothing and solid colors look great in photos
- Make sure that ALL clothes are ironed and pressed before the shoot. Wrinkles in clothes are difficult to Photoshop out.
- Stay away from stripes, prints, or patterns because the camera has a difficult time dealing with prints and patterns, and it creates what is called a moire pattern, which is a wavelike pattern that is nearly impossible to retouch out.
- The number one consideration is to wear clothes that fit you well. Not too tight, not too loose.
- If you wear glasses all the time, do wear them in your photograph but make sure the glasses have anti-glare coatings.

Do I need makeup and hair styling for the photoshoot?
Makeup for the session is highly recommended for all women. The cost is $150 for makeup for the session and includes hair help.
The makeup is applied specifically for the lighting we use and we usually start very naturally to give you a very clean simple look. We do touch ups and will add subtle changes to the makeup as the shoot progresses. If you’d like to start off a little heavier on the makeup we are happy to do that as well, just let us know.
Hairstyling for the session is highly recommended for all women. We ask that everyone come in with their hair ready the way you would like to present yourself. We want your hair in your pictures to be as close as possible to the way you look on a fantastic hair day. Of course my makeup artist is there to make sure it’s shoot ready and we will discuss what you’d like to do with it and make a gameplan for the shoot.
If you need a major overhaul hair wise or you are naturally curly and want to go straight there may be an extra $25 charge for our makeup artist to blow it out for you. Make sure you discuss this with us prior to your session, so we are all on the same page.
We don’t recommend makeup on men, but my makeup artist can provide light touch up on the shoot for $50 if you like. All our work is retouched afterwards, so any blemishes will be taken care of during that process.
If you’d like to shoot with facial hair we’d be happy for you to come in with whatever level of growth you’d like and can shave or trim it down once we’ve gotten it covered. Bring whatever grooming products you’ll need with you to get it done.
What happen if I'm late for the photoshoot?
Please arrive on time for your session. If you arrive 10-20 minutes after the session starts, you will missed a substantial part of the session and will not be accommodated for additional time without overtime fees. I have to be strict because I shoot mutiple sessions on the same day, and they are back to back appointments.
What is retouching?
Retouching is a part of the production process after your headshot session. I retouch each image by hand, in-house. It is a very time consuming process and can take up to 1 hour of detailed retouching. This process includes removing stray hairs, removing blemishes, even out skin tones and textures, softening under-eye dark circles. My goal is to keep your images very realistic and natural, I don’t want it to look plastic-y or fake. It’s important that texture remain on the face for your image to look natural. If you require more extensive retouching that takes longer than my standard 1 hour retouching, there may be an additional retouching fee to cover my time and talent.
Will I feel weird doing this?
Yes… For the first 5-10 minutes maybe. Let’s face it, it isn’t every day you wake up get your hair and makeup done, then get in front of camera. So it can feel a bit weird, but I promise that goes away in no time. Headshot/Portrait is all about letting go of personal hangups, and seeing yourself in a whole new light. Overcoming that weird feeling is the first step. By the end of the session you’ll be thinking, weird? There’s no weird here… Why did I feel weird? And then want to do it all over again.
Do you offer group discounts?
Absolutely. Pricing will vary depending on the size of the group, if you require in-studio or on-location and other variables. Contact and inquire about the Team Sessions, with a rough estimate of what size of group and if you’d prefer to come to me, or I go to you.
Can I get a discount on my headshot session if I refer a friend to you?
Absolutely! I love referrals! If you refer a friend who books me before your session, you’ll receive 10% off your headshot session. This applies to whatever package you choose! If you refer a friend who books me after your session, you can receive either one additional retouched image from your session or 10% off of your next headshot session.
Do I get a discount if I come back for another headshot or portrait session?
Absolutely! I am so honoured when clients come back for more!
- 15% off return within 1-year
- 10% off return after 1-year
What is the cancellation or no-show policy?
If you “cancel last minute” or “do not show” to your scheduled headshot/portrait session, I charge a $100 rescheduling fees. Please reach out to me at least 24 hours in advance to let me know you can’t make it and I can try to book you in for another appointment.
